Handwoven towels make wonderful gifts -
as house warming presents, wedding gifts or a special thank-you to the
host or hostess. Both weights are popular with people who have second
homes here in Vermont, particularly those renovating historic farmhouses
or decorating in a homespun/country style. People who love their kitchens
appreciate the look these towels bring to their home. They make the perfect present for
someone who 'has everything'.
The fabric itself is very versatile
and can be enjoyed in a variety of ways: hung on display in
the kitchen; as a center piece on a table; under a vase of flowers
or bowl of fruit; lining bread baskets and serving trays; or as a
special addition to a guest room. Using this type of
handwoven fabric can transform the everyday experience of kitchen work -
turning it into a special
occasion.
Since all of
the weaving
and finish work is done by hand (by me) - there are a limited
number of these pieces made each year. The two 'weights'
of yarn that I use, describe the towels' appearance and hand: either
lightweight or heavyweight. Both are very soft and absorbent.
The heavyweight toweling is the original type preferred by my living
history customers. It has a very homespun texture and appearance.
Color choices vary from year to year.
Heavy weight toweling is always a natural off-white background.
Light weight towels may be either bleached white or natural (off-white, or
ecru) background.
The towels are pre-washed (in hot
water) and tumble dried (on high) so no further shrinkage will occur.
Hems are sewn by hand. Stains are easily removed when treated
promptly with a stain removal or pre-wash stain treatment product.
Chlorine Bleach is not recommended as it will remove color
from the borders. Price does not include shipping. |
