In the past
couple of years, I've been choosing to use more multi-colored fibers and
yarns, and feeling slightly limited by the selection of weaving yarns available
commercially. Creating my own colors is becoming more
appealing and also more of a possibility. As I experiment with dyes,
fabrics, fibers and yarns, I will be adding photos and descriptions to
this page.
Some of my 'practice' will show up this season with a series of
handspun, handwoven scarves using hand dyed merino wool and silk fibers.
Some of these colors come from Mary Isham, a talented spinner and dyer I met
through the Stowe Farmer's Market. As I spin my way through the
color changes, and then weave with the yarns, I'm developing
a better sense of how the colors combine, what 'spaces' they take up, and how I
might be able to manipulate the colors at each stage of the process.
So many questions, so many possibilities, and so much to learn!
